Step in from the doorstep.
Every Tulamben resort has its own slice of the bay's house reef — a sandy slope from 3 metres down to about 15, dotted with hard coral patches and the occasional artificial coral block placed by dive operators decades ago.
It's the sort of dive that doesn't sound exciting until you actually do it. Mandarinfish show up in the coral rubble at dusk for their mating display — Tulamben's classic sunset dive. After dark, with a torch, the reef changes: Spanish dancers, sleeping parrotfish, hunting octopus, the occasional bobtail squid.
"The check-dive that becomes the night dive by accident."
Use it as a refresher on arrival, a sunset dive for mandarinfish, or a night dive when you don't want to drive anywhere. Easiest entry/exit on the entire east coast. Open Water-friendly, family-friendly, photographer-friendly.
