The story

The dive under Pura Ped.

Ped takes its name from Pura Ped — the Hindu temple on the cliff above. The dive itself is a classic Penida drift along a coral wall: healthy hard coral, gorgonian sea fans, schools of fusiliers, and in the cold thermocline season, the occasional mola mola from deeper water.

Current can be strong here — the wall sits in a narrow passage between the island and the deeper strait, accelerating the current. AOWD-level recommended.

"A wall under holy ground."

A good alternative to SD Point on busy days. Visibility tends to be excellent in the cold season.

Topography

How the dive unfolds.

A vertical coral wall in a current-swept passage. Mola mola possible in cold season.

Plan a typical 45–55 min drift: negative entry, descend to 18 m on the wall, drift with current, watch the blue for mola, ascend gradually with wall on shoulder, safety stop at 5 m.
