Where mola appear.
Gamat is a sheltered bay on Penida's north coast with a coral wall on the western side dropping into the deep. The bay is one of the most reliable mola mola sites in the cold-water season (August–October) — the deep thermocline rises closer to the surface here than at most Penida sites.
Outside of mola season, it's a relaxed wall dive with hard coral, gorgonian sea fans, and steady reef-fish life. A good alternative when Crystal Bay has too many boats.
"When the swell shuts the south, Gamat opens."
Conditions in Gamat are usually the calmest in north Penida — the bay geometry buffers swell and current.
