The story

Where the current does the work.

The strait between Bali and Lombok is one of the deepest channels in Indonesia — and the current that pours through it is what brings cold, nutrient-rich water (and pelagic fish) up onto the Padang Bai shelf. Ferry Channel is the dive that puts you in that current.

Negative entry, drop fast to 18–22 m, and let the drift carry you north along the reef edge. Schooling jacks, Napoleon wrasse, the occasional whitetip reef shark, and (in mola season, Aug–Oct) the chance of a sunfish drifting up from the deep blue.

"Cold-water blue, fast current, big fish."

AOWD recommended. Always plan with an SMB and stay close to your guide — current speed varies dive to dive. Surface intervals back at the harbour.

Topography

How the dive unfolds.

Reef shelf at 8–18 m sloping into the deeper channel. Drift along the shelf, watch the blue.
